Planetary exploration is often constrained by limited situational awareness and slow detection of potential hazards, especially when relying on a single ground platform and limited to its onboard sensors. This paper presents a concept of cooperative operations between a Planetary Rover and an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle, based on an example of the Student Planetary Rover Kalman and the Companion UAV. The proposed framework outlines an adaptable architecture for integrated air–ground cooperation, focusing on communication interfaces, autonomy sharing, and mission planning for analogue and future extraterrestrial applications.
