Abstract Team Lunabot’s rover design aims to address critical challenges of multi-functionality, modularity, and system control, supporting the development of information and resources essential for future human missions on the lunar surface. This maintenance rover design has undergone rigorous engineering analyses to ensure the safety and reliability of key components. These designs and analyses informed the refinement of the structure, hardware, software, and power systems, ensuring the rover can perform expected tasks while addressing challenges identified in previous designs. Inspired by NASA’s Artemis program and its focus on sustainable resource utilization, the rover will align with the goals of advancing lunar exploration technologies and reducing dependence on Earth-based resources. In this paper, the team will apply knowledge from mechanical engineering coursework to develop a vehicle that embodies adaptability, autonomy, telecommunication, collaboration, and sustainability. By identifying the pitfalls of previous designs and crafting innovative solutions, this project contributes to a new era of exploration and the future of sustainable lunar operations.
