On-orbit servicing spacecraft (OSS) perform various tasks for other spacecraft in orbit, such as inspection, repair, and refueling. Conventional safety analysis and evaluation methods based on products cannot meet OSS requirements. This paper proposes a “mission-centric safety analysis method” based on mission profiles. This method analyzes the characteristics of OSS and identifies hazard events to carry out safety analysis considering the on-orbit environment and mission elements during all mission stages. In addition, a safety evaluation method based on fault tree analysis is proposed, which provides a foundation for improving the on-orbit survivability of OSS.
